Bibliophile

I was reading mental floss today, and they have some interesting stats about people's reading habits. It made me incredibly sad!

• One-third of high school graduates never read another book for the rest of their lives.
• 42 percent of college graduates never read another book after college.
• 80 percent of U.S. families did not buy or read a book last year.
• 70 percent of U.S. adults have not been in a bookstore in the last five years.
• 57 percent of new books are not read to completion.

I mean, yeah, I buy books and then not read them for awhile, but only because they are pretty in-depth books and they're a little hard to get through. But still, I hope I am raising children who love to read, because if they didn't, I would be even sadder.

  1. It's scary to think that all of those people can vote.

    Happy Easter!

  2. How sad! We're constantly going to the library, and now that I have a Kindle I'm catching up on some classics and Shakespeare's lesser-read plays. We're obviously rubbing off on our kids, because they literally chase us with books.

  3. And there are some great Catholic kids' books now too, which is so helpful for teaching the Faith.

  4. My mother will proudly assert she has never read a book in her life. She's also the one who voted for Gore instead of Bush because G.W.'s eyes were "too close together".

Enough said. BTW, I (thankfully) take after my father who would read just about anything.
