So I guess there are some bloggers ticked off (I don't know if that's the right term. Upset? Flustered?) that other bloggers ask for donations.
You know what? Who cares? If people ask for money, and are up-front about where it's going, and other people still want to give them money, who cares?
There's a priest blogger I know of that asks for donations to buy new vestments, probably because the previous priest used the kind of shit you'd see on Bad Vestments. (Unfortunately, you have no idea how many of those vestments I've seen personally. *shudder*) That's a good thing to donate to, if you have the money.
Hell, you know what? So is good beer!
I know what you mean. I admit that I've complained about it before. I suppose there's potential for abuse, but, in thinking about it more, I also know that people often ask what they can get a priest or how they can help, so this is a way for the priest to say exactly what would be appreciated. I guess it's along the same lines as people getting upset if a priest has a nice TV, nice desk, nice car, but don't realise that the items were donated. So I'm glad you posted this to make me think about it more. :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, I agree there is potential for abuse. But I think as long as you are up front about where the money is going to, it shouldn't be a big deal. And I think it gives a priest (or whomever) a chance to be humble and ask, and someone who has money a chance to be generous..
ReplyDeleteYou should certainly not donate, unless you know where the money is going:)
