My city just instituted a cell-phone ban while driving. Which I think is the stupidest thing evah. One, why single out talking on a cell phone as something that causes distracted driving? Having other people in the car is a distraction. Having the radio on too loud is too. Having kids in the car is distracting (moms definitely know this one).
Then I read this study that basically says the same thing. It says if someone is going to get distracted, they will regardless of what their behavior is. Just because it's something you think you can legislate, doesn't make the problem go away.
And, oh yah, my city doesn't really enforce the 'law' against running red lights, which, I think is more important than curbing cell phone usage.Grrrr
Is that for ALL cell phone use, or just without a hands-free device? I know a lot of places require hands-free if you're using a cell phone while driving. Which I hate because ear pieces never fit my ears right (I have small ears), and my speaker phone is never loud enough with 4 kids in the back seat.
ReplyDeleteYou have to have a hands-free device. Blech. I also hate ear pieces because when I see people with them in, I think they look like pretentious asshats.
